The red point where the earthquake hit.
At 23.54 , an earthquake of 5.1 on the Richter scale took place in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of Marmara Ereğlisi, in Thrace.
It was felt in towns and cities bordering the Marmara Sea in tne north and also in Istanbul, particularly on the coast. At the same time another earthquake has been felt in Aegean region, the city Izmir too.
There was no loss of life or damage to property. The source of the quake was 14 km below sea level.
But I didn’t feel it… of course made us all afraid…

Yes, scary especially after the 1999 earthquake it makes us so afraid… People being in panic or alert…And this caused the telephones are being blocked… But now everything is fine. Thank you dear, love, nia
I’m glad no one was hurt. I was in San Francisco Bay Area for the 1989 earthquake. We would have had more people die, but most people were already home getting ready for the World Series (Oakland vs San Francisco), so there weren’t the usual amount of cars on the freeways and bridge that collapsed.
Yes dear I remember this earthquake and still there are some photographs in my mind. Oh my God… After 1999 earthquake in here, we are so worry and they except another one too, geologists say this always… BUt is the city ready for this? It would be a big chaos if this happens… This city has been already in a big chaos with her populations, illegal buildings and unbelievable traffic, etc. Thank you dear Carissa, love, nia

Be well and stay safe, Nia. I know it’s un-nerving especially if there are aftershocks. I was in the ’89 quake in the Bay Area and it scared me so much I slept with my clothes on that night.
Yes, dear, I know too… After 1999 earthquake we stayed outside of the buildings for a few nights, I remember we slept in our car at the otopark but I didn’t sleep and my cat too. It was so scary. There have been earthquakes not far from here in Bagni di Lucca. Some people have felt the shaking here…..too close for comfort.

Earthquakes are frightening even if no damage is done. It’s unnatural to feel the earth move! I bet the cats sense it even when you don’t feel a thing from a tremor. I guess that they know it is coming from deep in the earth before humans detect it.
I am happy that you are okay. I hope for no earthquakes for Istanbul. That would be catastrophic because of the building and the population. Too may people in the same place! Be safe, Nia!
